Books I Read in May | monthly wrap-up

Is it just me or did May fly by way too fast?! I spent a lot of the month taking classes, having work, and also a little travelling for the first time in over a year πŸŽ‰ It has definitely been the best month of the year so far for me in terms of my mental health and just overall, so I take that as a huge win! A big part of that is I decided to step back from social media and putting pressure on myself to post. I archived a lot of old pics from my Bookstagram, and as much as I still occasionally go on there, I try not to spend more than 10 minutes. Everyone has their own limits and its important to know yours, but for me social media was just taking a huge toll so I did what I had to 🀧

Anyways, I also haven’t posted regularly on this blog because I’ve been more busy than usual but I haven’t been too inactive on here. This blog is honestly one of my favorite things to do and it genuinely makes me so happy to talk about books and get recommendations from so many other lovelies on here βœ¨πŸ’™

Getting into what you’re all probably here for lol, I read 6 books in May!! And I honestly enjoyed (almost) all of them, so that made me really happy as well. I was able to physically read a lot more as opposed to having to listen to audiobooks which was amazinggg to be able to do again :))

TIES THAT TETHER by JANE IGHARO

I actually have a full review for this book you can find here , but to sum up, I found Ties That Tether to be disappointing. It’s an adult romance that I had really high hopes for just because it seemed like something that would be emotional while also being fun and light-hearted. Buuuuut, I didn’t feel any sort of connecting to the characters or the plot and it’s honestly a forgettable book for me.

THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL by MAURENE GOO

If you want a book that just feels like summer, then this is definitely the one for you :)) It was an average read for me, it’s not the best YA contemporary and there were parts about it I didn’t enjoy. For example, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the romance and the main character was also kind of,,,annoying at times πŸ™ƒ but I don’t regret reading it and would recommend if you’re just looking for something fun to finish in one sitting.

ALL BOYS AREN’T BLUE by GEORGE M JOHNSON

I have a full review for this book here and found it to be a really emotional and important read that everyone should pick up at some point. It was really moving and I promise that what is on the inside of the book is just as beautiful as the outside 😍

GROWN by TIFFANY D JACKSON

Again, I have already reviewed this book right here. It was such a moving story and felt very very real to real life events which was even more chilling. If you’re in the right head space for it, then I think Grown is a book you need to read.

ONE OF US IS NEXT by KAREN M MCMANUS

So I listened to this one via audiobook and wowww was that an experience. If I’m being 100% honest I did not see that ending coming, which I normally am able to do with this author’s books. She just writes fun mystery novels for a YA audience and this one was no different πŸ‘€ I really don’t have much more to say other than that if you’re a fan on McManus’s other books then this should be no different.

AMERICAN STREET by IBI ZOBOI

When I tell you this has been on my tbr for literally years. Finallyyyy I got around to reading American Street and wow wow wow it was so good. This is a short book but packed with so much emotion and personality. I do think it could have benefitted from being a bit longer just because it would’ve been nice to just see,,,more. Like, between the beginning and the end I would have liked more plot to happen. That being said, this almost made me cry and if that doesn’t motivate you to read it, I don’t know what will πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈ

That’s it for today’s post! I hope you all have an amazing and great June filled with lots of good books 😊❀️ Also, FYI, I won’t be posting a June TBR because I’ve been in a huge mood reader mood so I’ll be picking my next reads just on the spot :))

What did you read in May? What’s on your TBR for June?

Hi friends! My name is Aarushi (she/her) and welcome to my blog πŸ’– I’m a 19 year old reader and decided to start this so I’d have a place where I could write down all my bookish rambles and thoughts! In addition to reading, I love to write in my free time and am currently working on my YA Fantasy WIP. Found family, rivals to lovers, and a historical backdrop are just a few tropes I've added in. I love interacting with other readers and writers so be sure to leave your comments so we can chat! Thanks for being here <33 All my socials are aarushireads :) *profile pic created by prequel

  1. oh Grown was one of my favorites of 2020! I read The Wolf of Oren-Yaro and Meet Cute Diary, which were both five star reads for me. I also read Made in Korea, which was super cute, and Raybearer, which is oneo fthe most immersive reads I’ve read this year.
